What moves where.
What survives each transfer between After Effects, Figma and Illustrator — all nine directions, now that Illustrator exports too. Same-tool round-trips keep nearly everything; cross-tool transfers only carry what both apps share, and anything leaving Illustrator is static by definition.
Gradients & After Effects
AE doesn't expose gradient colours to scripting, so gradient fills and strokes are lost in every AE direction — including Ae → Ae. A hard After Effects limit, not ours.
Stroke alignment & After Effects
AE vector strokes are always centred on the path, with no inside / outside option. A Figma centred stroke transfers 1:1; inside / outside can't be reproduced in AE.
Figma → After Effects
Now covers shapes, fills / strokes, dashes, blend modes, transforms, full animation with easing (incl. spring), groups to precomps, text (incl. text on a path), layer effects, and masks. Still open — path morph, animated masks, per-character text — tracked on what's brewing →
Illustrator has no timeline
Illustrator is static — an animated spell arrives in its final pose, the settled composition, as if you scrubbed to the end. Nothing in the Easing category applies there.

| Null layersAE to Figma / Illustrator: a null that parents layers becomes a group holding them and carrying the null's own animation — nested nulls chain. A null with nothing parented to it is dropped, having nothing to draw. | Fill rule (even-odd / non-zero)Carried in every direction. It was hard-coded to non-zero in both converters for months, with the winding rule sitting on the very object the path data came from — so a donut built with even-odd filled solid everywhere except the AE round-trip. The three dialects disagree on where the rule lives: Figma puts it on the path, AE on the FILL (a menu: 1 = non-zero, 2 = even-odd), MPU and Illustrator on the shape | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support | Full support |

| Stroke dashesPattern and offset both carry. The AE READ side has a hole that is AE's, not ours: ExtendScript always reports three default 10 / 10 pairs and never says whether dashes are switched on, so a stroke deliberately dashed at exactly 10 / 10 arrives solid — which costs every AE-sourced direction | Full support | Full support | Partial | Full support | Full support | Partial | Partial | Partial | Partial |
| Gradient — colours & stopsAE refuses to expose gradient colours to ANY script — its own words: “propertyValueType is NO_VALUE”. Not a MotionPotion limitation and not fixable here, so every AE direction loses them and Figma to AE bakes an averaged solid. Figma to Illustrator carries the real stops. Tip: the Gradient Ramp EFFECT does expose its two colours — only shape-layer Gradient Fill is sealed | Full support | Not supported | Not supported | Partial | Full support | Not supported | Full support | Partial | Full support |
| Gradient — directionFigma to Figma silently straightened every gradient until the transform was carried through — fixed. Illustrator recomputes gradient placement the moment it is assigned and refuses ours, so an angled gradient imports horizontal — an accepted limitation, not a gap to close: the colours and stops still arrive and one handle drag restores the angle. | MasksFigma to AE: a mask clips only the layers it actually covers — one target becomes an alpha track matte in place (no extra group), several are precomposed and matted as a unit. Why the gaps exist.
Recipes are captured from After Effects in full: every property, effect, and curve AE can express. Figma's native Motion timeline is younger and narrower, and Illustrator has no timeline at all, so a cross-tool transfer can only carry what both apps share. Where a property doesn't map, the plugin applies what it can and tells you what got left behind, instead of pretending it made the trip.
The Figma → After Effects bridge now covers shapes, fills, animation, text, and layer effects — but it's still brewing toward full parity. Illustrator gained its own exporter too, so every one of the nine source→target directions is live, even though anything leaving Illustrator is necessarily static. As the remaining gaps close (path morph, animated mask paths, per-character text), this page updates first.
